About iM3F 2020

The Innovative Manufacturing, Mechatronics & Materials Forum 2020 (iM3F 2020) is the first edition of the forum organised by the Faculty of Manufacturing and Mechatronic Engineering Technology, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP). This inaugural event will be held on the 6th of August 2020 virtually hosted by Universiti Malaysia Pahang. This forum is aimed at building a platform that allows academics as well as other relevant stakeholders within the region to share, discuss and deliberate their latest research findings in the field of manufacturing, mechatronics & materials, respectively.

"Autonomous Navigation Technology for Smart Cities"

In this talk, the core technologies and their implementations to
provide various services in the smart cities will be introduced, mainly
focusing on autonomous navigation, localization, and monitoring
technologies. For autonomous navigation, various researches including
vision-based, LiDAR-based, and wireless SLAM (Simultaneous
Localization And Mapping) will be discussed. The applications of the
autonomous navigation will be elaborated: self-driving car, UAVs
(Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) using a
wall-climbing drone, and Mole-bot for underground exploration.

"Hydrogen Enhanced Plasticity and Dissolution of Cementite in Steels"

Hydrogen embrittlement remains of critical concern in the design of strong and reliable microstructures in steels. However, the role of cementite in susceptibility to hydrogen embrittlement is not fully understood. In this work, Ab initio simulations are conducted to evaluate the effects of hydrogen on the stability and mechanical properties of cementite. Resonance ultrasound spectroscopy is used to experimentally measure the shear and bulk moduli and continuum modelling applied to evaluate the effects of hydrogen loading on the Peierls stress of cementite. Differential scanning calorimetry is used to experimentally measure phase stability. The results show that in the presence of hydrogen, cementite's stability is notably reduced and its shearability increased, resulting in the enhanced dissolution of cementite under fatigue. It is suggested that this enhanced plasticity in the presence of hydrogen will contribute to the reduction in strength and fatigue life of the parent steel as observed in hydrogen-charged fatigue tests.
